Sand can be conveyed using either a pneumatic system or a mechanical system. The choice of system usually depends upon the distance the sand must be conveyed.
A pneumatic system has the ability to move the material long distances, while using a relatively small area for the conveying system. Both vacuum and pressure systems can be used for sand conveying. Each type of system has specific advantages, and must be reviewed for each application.
A mechanical system is advisable when the conveying requirement is to move the sand short distances, in a straight line. Dry flight conveyors using single or double stranded chain, and belt conveyors are typically used for this application.
