Filters are used in pneumatic conveying systems to separate the conveyed material from the air or gas stream. They are used in vacuum or pressure systems as primary filters, or as secondary filters for nuisance dust control.
In vacuum systems, the filter precedes the blower to remove product that might carry over and damage the blower; in pressure systems, the filter is used at the end of a system to avoid loss of the product to the atmosphere. They are also used in combination vacuum / pressure systems, closed loop systems (where inert gas may be used as the conveying medium) and many other specialized applications.
